August Camp Vision Statement

AMC Mission

The mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club is to foster the protection, enjoyment, and understanding of the outdoors. Since 1876 we've made it our mission to protect the mountains, forests, waters, and trails you love in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions.

The August Camp Vision

August Camp endeavors to build a diverse community with a shared enthusiasm for hiking and other outdoor activities. August Camp makes it possible for participants to explore different areas of North America, to learn more about the natural world, to experience the satisfaction and delight of time spent on the trail, and to develop enduring friendships. August Camp embraces Leave No Trace principles on the trail and in other camp activities. In its field camp operations, August Camp is committed to low-impact, sustainable practices.  We seek to build environmental awareness, including working with local organizations to establish volunteer opportunities for campers to take part in projects such as revegetation and trail maintenance.  Each summer, August Campers come away with a new appreciation for the natural and human communities they visit, and a lasting joy and reverence for the outdoors.
