This site, AugustCamp.org, is owned and operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club (AMC) August Camp. Your privacy on the Internet is of the utmost importance to us. At AMC August Camp, we want to make your experience online satisfying and safe.
Because we gather certain types of information about our users, we feel you should fully understand our policy and the terms and conditions surrounding the capture and use of that information. This privacy statement discloses what information we gather and how we use it.
Gathering and Tracking Information
The AMC August Camp gathers two types of information about users:
- Information that users provide through optional, voluntary submissions. This information is collected when, for example, users sign up to receive our electronic newsletters, apply for camp or fill our required forms.
- Information AMC August Camp gathers through aggregated tracking information derived mainly by tallying page views throughout our site. This information allows us to better tailor our content to readers’ needs and to better understand the demographics of our audience. Under no circumstances does the AMC August Camp divulge any information about an individual user to a third party.

Optional Voluntary Information
We offer the following services, which require some type of voluntary submission of personal information by users:
- Electronic newsletters policy: We offer free electronic newsletters to users. AMC August Camp gathers the email addresses of users who voluntarily subscribe and its members. Users may remove themselves from this mailing list by following the link provided in every newsletter that points users to the subscription management page.
- Camp Applications, Medical Forms, Transportation Forms, Drive Authorization Forms and Managed Risk Release Forms.
- Surveys: The AMC August Camp may occasionally conduct user surveys to better serve our guests in the future. We never share any of this information about specific individuals with any third party.
Children
Consistent with the Federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of 1998 (COPPA), we will never knowingly request personally identifiable information from anyone under the age of 13 without obtaining parental consent.
Usage tracking
The August Camp tracks user traffic patterns on its site. However, we do not correlate this information with data about individual users.
Cookies and Web Beacons
We may place a text file called a “cookie” in the browser files of your computer. The cookie itself does not contain Personal Information although it will enable us to relate your use of this site to information that you have specifically and knowingly provided. But the only personal information a cookie can contain is information you supply yourself. A cookie can’t read data off your hard disk or read cookie files created by other sites. August Camp uses cookies to track user traffic patterns (as described above).

Use of Information
August Camp uses any information voluntarily given by our users specifically for enrollment in the current camp season.
Sharing of the Information
AMC August Camp does not sell or exchange email addresses.
In some cases, we use a third-party email service provider to send emails. The service provider is prohibited from using your email address for any purpose other than to send AMC August Camp-related email. Every time you receive an email newsletter, you will be provided the choice to opt-out of future emails by following the instructions provided in the email.
We may release personal information if required by law, for example, to comply with a court order or subpoena.
Security
The AMC August Camp makes every effort to ensure the secure collection and transmission of sensitive user information using industry accepted data collection and encryption methodologies. For example, when entering a personal address, phone number, and credit card information, we use Secure Socket Layer encryption to ensure unauthorized individuals cannot intercept and read this data over a network connection. You will know you are in secure mode when the padlock or key icon in the lower right-hand or left-hand corner of the computer screen appears in the locked position. In addition, when accessing a secure server, the first characters of the site address will change from “http” to “https.” Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary and only authorized individuals have access to the information provided by our customers.
