August Camp 2022 North Cascades

In 2022 August Camp is returning to the breathtaking North Cascades of Washington State. We will hike in North Cascades National Park, Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest, and Ross Lake and Lake Chelan National Recreation areas. Choose from a variety of hikes every day, with the possibility of additional activities such as rafting, biking, or an excursion to the San Juan Islands. No matter what you do, you will see incredible vistas.

The 2022 location, a much-loved location for August Camp,  is on the banks of the Skagit River in Concrete, Washington. Just down the road is Cascadian Farms, known for their organic food and the best ice cream we've ever had!

Each week, our full-service tent village for 64 campers offers home-cooked meals, daily hikes at all levels, nightly campfires, and wonderful camaraderie.

Any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) is an acceptable vaccine for the purposes of this policy. Fully vaccinated is defined by the CDC here. Campers will need to submit a copy of their vaccination card with their registration forms once they have been accepted to Camp (in late January).

Getting to Camp and Transportation

Campers flying to Camp will meet at the Seattle-Tacoma airport (SEA) baggage claim between 10 AM and 2 PM on Saturdays only for transport to camp. Vans will depart for camp as they fill and drivers are available.

The meeting place is adjacent to baggage carousel #16, near the escalator at Seattle-Tacoma airport (the same location as 2019). For those arriving by taxi or limo, ask to be dropped at door #26.

If possible, please do not plan to arrive at the meeting place prior to 10 AM on your arrival day to allow departing campers to disembark.

In addition, on the day you leave camp, schedule departing flights after 10 AM. We can not accommodate earlier flights.

We try to accommodate unanticipated flight delays or schedule changes. If you are notified of changes in your schedule that will significantly change your arrival time, please notify the Transportation Coordinators at [email protected] immediately, not the Registrar.  See phone numbers below for arrival Saturdays only.

If Your Flight is delayed

Please call the number given below if your flight has been delayed, changed, rerouted, and for other Saturday travel emergencies. This isn NOT the emergency number for Camp.  If you call before 10 am and get no answer, keep trying as the phone may be en route to the airport and in a no-coverage area.

  • On July 16 and 23: call 203-733-2963 (Paula)
  • On July 30 and August 6: call 917-495-2084 (Virginia)

Departure Transportation

Vans begin leaving camp at 5 AM to return to the airport. You must plan to leave camp about 4-5 hours before your flight time. Transportation to SEA will not be available on departure Saturdays for flights leaving before 10 a.m.  If you choose to book an early morning flight you should consider booking it for Sunday morning and spending Saturday night near the airport.

Driving Directions to Camp

The camp is about a 2.5-3-hour drive from the airport with a QUICK stop en route for lunch and for people to buy a few snacks and supplies (e.g. happy hour provisions).

We reach the camp location via the North Cascades Highway, considered the most scenic drive in Washington State.

Volunteer Drivers at Camp

In order to run our full program of hikes and activities each day, August Camp depends on having a large number of campers qualified as volunteer drivers.  Even if you drive your own vehicle to Camp, please consider applying to be an approved van driver.

Please complete the online Authorization to Drive August Camp Vans form no later than May 1st.  This authorizes the AMC's insurance carrier to review your driving record.

We appreciate your willingness to apply to be a driver. The more drivers we have, the less everyone has to do.
